The Des Moines Big Band's Masters of Jazz series presents the work of prolific American jazz leaders & masters of the 17 piece arrangement. This month, the band focuses on American Jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, singer and big band leader Woody Herman. Under Herman’s directions, “The Band that Plays the Blues,” “First Herd,” “Four Brothers,” and the “Young Thundering Herds” played cutting edge jazz, blues, and be-bop earning Gold Records, Grammies, and a spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Des Moines Big Band, a storied ensemble that goes back to the 1950s, has played with some of the greatest names in jazz, from legends like Clark Terry to some of the more local household names such as Scott Smith. Led by renowned trumpeter/arranger Dave Rezek, this organization is in residence at Noce on Wednesday nights.
Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 is required for entry. For individuals electing not to get vaccinated, proof of a negative test from the 48 hours prior to the show will be accepted. A photo of either document will suffice.
