While the great American songbook and other such jazz standards is a significant portion of the songs we know as jazz, its high popularity with performers and listeners alike means that many substantive pieces of music go either underperformed or overlooked altogether. This night is dedicated to unearthing and presenting music uncommonly heard in Iowa. Please join the Damani Phillips Quartet (Steve Shanley on piano, Dave Altemeier on bass, Fabio Augustinas on bass) for a unique night of approachable music that highlights the jazz path less travelled in Iowa. Featuring original compositions/arrangement by Phillips; in addition to music from the likes of Kenny Garrett, Benny Golson, John Coltrane, Billy Strayhorn and many more.
